Understanding Modern Art: Cubism & Beyond presented by Professor Nancy Heller


In the second of a series of lectures on Modern art, Dr. Heller will continue to explore Modern art and artists through a number of lenses; social, political, religious. These lectures will be just as informative as they are fun. Heller will draw from her book titled, Why a Painting is Like a Pizza: A Guide to Understanding and Enjoying Modern Art (Princeton University Press). Fun, right?

Beyond Realism and Narrative

The invention and dissemination of Cubism by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, leading to the totally abstract works created by Kasimir Malevich and Piet Mondrian. Other variations on Cubism throughout the Western world, by artists as diverse as Giacomo Balla and Sonia Delaunay.
